Ste. Genevieve educator and historian Lorraine Stange has recently been named as a recipient of "L'Ordre des Palmes Academiques," an order founded by Napoleon Bonaparte to recognize the importance of education in France.
French Ambassador Jean-David Levitte will formally present the award and medal to Stange in Ste. Genevieve on Friday, October 27. Stange will hold the title "Chevalier dans L'Ordre des Palmes Academiques."
The award, first created in 1808, recognizes "devotion and accomplishment in the areas of teaching, scholarship and research." In recent years, it has been conferred by the French government.
Following a long career with the Ste. Genevieve R-II School District, Stange is presently the director of the Bolduc Historic Properties, owned by The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Missouri.
She also is a Foundation for Restoration of Ste. Genevieve board member and a long-time appointee to the City of Ste. Genevieve's Landmarks Commission. |
